Philosophy
There truly is a certain glow that only a mommie-to-be possesses. Our goal is to capture that special feeling surrounding you, your partner and this pregnancy. Whether it is in your home, on location or at the studio, we hope that this photography session will be something different from anything you’ve done before. We will put our heads together to develop a session that fits your tastes and works within your comfort zone… for women of all shapes and sizes.
Please plan on scheduling your maternity photography session at seven months in… bellies are perfect then. Of course if you are past that timeframe, just give us a call. We have been known to do some creative scheduling to fit you in.
How it all works:
After you’ve decided you want to work with us, we will do a consultation. During this time, we will discuss what you’re looking for. What type of session would you like to have…on location, at your home, etc. What do you like about the photographs? Do you want a formal looking portrait, do you want a more playful fun look…or do you want to get sexy with it ☺? Everybody is different and we want to make sure we get something that really illustrates you.
We will then go over type of clothing you are planning to wear.
We will also discuss what type of products are you wanting from this session. This will give us an idea of how to approach the photography session. Take into consideration your home décor style and what type of gifts are you thinking about.
Do you want a nice wall portrait or do you want a custom designed coffee table album? Do you want some folios for the grandparents or a special book for dad? These are all factors that will help guide the photography session.
Next is photography session itself. Your shoot will typically last between one and two hours…depending on the location and involvement.
Approximately ten days after your photography session, we will set up a viewing session. This is where you return to the studio for the presentation of your images. Expect a casual, fun filled time viewing your photos on the big screen in the studio. We will set back, have a snack, perhaps a glass of wine and see what happened with the photo session. You place your order of your favorites and we get things rolling!
A few tips:
So just a little advice…skip the maternity clothes. Maternity clothes are made to make you feel good rather than flatter the shape of your body. And the whole point is to see that beautiful belly! So think tight, stretchy clothes that will accentuate all your great curves. Maybe some fitted tank tops or just some fabric to cover the necessary parts. Also, think about any props you would like to bring…fabrics, flowers, etc.
Stay away from busy patterns…plaids, stripes, florals and checks. You want to think simple and classic. Solid dark colors tend to be timeless. You know how you look back at the photos you have in the 1980’s and say “what was I thinking wearing that!” Well, that is exactly what we want to avoid. You want to be able to look back at these photographs in 10 or 15 years and still think the photos look great. On the other hand, if you have a favorite piece of clothing that breaks the rules…bring it. They are just general rules but once in a while something great happens out of breaking the rules!
When with others, dress similarly. If we are going to photograph your partner or children in the session remember you want to match. Nothing will stand out more in a photograph than when someone is dressed differently than the others. The idea is to focus on you, not the clothing.
