Engagement Photography

Philosophy

Many couples find that after they get engaged…they don’t have any professional photos of just the two of them. There’s something to be said for a well-lit, well-composed photograph, something a professional photographer can provide much better than the stranger you handed your Instamatic to on your last vacation together. The scene can be casual or formal, taken at a place that means something to both of you: maybe it’s the beach where you first held hands, or the park where you first kissed, or the restaurant where he finally proposed…the possibilities are endless. We structure our engagement photography sessions around what makes you…you! Engagement photos are a nice contrast to the formal look of your wedding photos so I like to have fun and experiment a bit. Think of something we can do to bring out your personality.

Don’t forget, the engagement portrait sitting is included in all of our wedding package. We know that if we have a chance to work together before the wedding, it will lead to better wedding photographs on that special day!

Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:
Visit your favorite park
Take a walk around the city
Visit a winery
Hit the beach
Go to the mountains
Rent a canoe
Go for a bicycle ride
Visit the fair or an amusement park
Go to a bowling alley or pool hall
Go play at the zoo
Have a milkshake
Get some drinks at a little café
Go to the a stream and feed the ducks
Rent a moped and let the fun begin
Have our own cooking class (This may get messy!)
Hit a round of golf or miniature golf
Vegas Baby! Flights are cheap
Visit Monterrey Bay Aquarium
Play on your old college campus

A few tips:
Stay away from busy patterns…plaids, stripes, florals and checks.  You want to think simple and classic.  Solid dark colors tend to be timeless.  You know how you look back at the photos you have in the 1980’s and say “what was I thinking wearing that!”  Well, that is exactly what we want to avoid.  You want to be able to look back at these photographs in 10 or 15 years and still think the photos look great.   On the other hand, if you have a favorite piece of clothing that breaks the rules…bring it.  They are just general rules but once in a while something great happens out of breaking the rules!

Another important thing is to dress similarly…we want you both to match each other in color and style.  Just pretend your going to an event together.  We don’t want one of you dressed like you are going to the opera and the other dressed like you are going to a football game.  Nothing will stand out more in a photograph than when you are dressed differently than each other.  The idea is to focus on you, not the clothing.

Lastly, bring a few different outfits.  Variety is a good thing!
