Roseville / Sacramento Area Portrait Photography

It is that time of the year.  There is a huge field of mustard seed plants right outside of Roseville and I just had to take advantage of it.  Here is an experimental session we did with Anya.  I was trying to go for something unique and edgy.  Let me know what you think!  And if you are interested in doing your own session like this, you better hurry…these fields will be gone soon.  Hope you enjoy.

California Wildflowers, Bear Valley Road, Colusa County

What a beautiful day!   As I made my way down the windy gravel road, it took me to a field of sweet smelling flowers in bloom.  I looked down at the temperature gage….sixty eight degrees, a light breeze flowing through the valley and the tunes of songbirds all around.  What more could you ask for!

If you haven’t made it to Bear Valley Road, you’re missing out on something truly special.  I remember the first time I traveled that old country road, wondering where I was and why people thought this place was so beautiful.  Then you make your way around the last bend and find yourself in this beautiful valley that seems to have been lost by the world…except for the cows wondering around.  I never seen such fields of flowers.

So far this year, things are a little slow for the area.  Still a spectacular bloom but nothing what I’ve seen for the area in past years.  As you venture down the gravel road, the first large area of flowers you will encounter is filled with Adobe Lilies.  Continue on and you will hit a few large areas of Cream Cups.  Red Maids are sprinkled around the area as well.  You can find Owl’s Clover and California Poppies if you poke around.  I’m hoping that it is just early in the season (you never really know mother nature’s schedule) and there is much more to come.  Cross your fingers!

Directions:
To get to Bear Valley Road, take Highway 5 to the town of Williams.  Travel 11 miles west of Williams on Highway 20.  Turn right (north) on Bear Valley Road and follow it into a little piece of paradise.  This is an old windy gravel road…be careful not to miss the turn.  I drove right by it many of times

The Wedding Photography of Emiley & Joe, The Citizen Hotel, Sacramento CA

They say love conquers all…even the weather.  Rain was in the forecast all week leading up to the wedding day which made for a nervous family the week before, I am sure.  But by some grace, the weekend turned into one of those perfect spring Sacramento days. You couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.

If you have ever met Emiley and Joe, you know that you couldn’t find a cuter couple in love.  It is amazing to see two people swimming in love and you can’t help but get swallowed in by it all.  It was an honor to spend the day with them and their family as we bounced around downtown Sacramento from the Citizen to the Capitol…we even had our run in with the cops.  Haha.  They were fun to work with and obviously the camera loves them!

Thank you to all the vendors that made this wonderful day possible:

California Wildflowers, Rancho Seco Howard Ranch Trail

The Rancho Seco Howard Ranch Trail is an easy walking trail with gentle rolling hills as you make your way through the grassland. The trail stretches about 7 miles roundtrip around the Racho Seco Lake. It is located 25 miles southeast of the Sacramento area, off of Highway 104.

Poppies are beginning to blanket the area in patches as if a painter dolloped the landscape with a paintbrush. Also, vernal pools are forming and you can hear the ribbits of frogs as you pass by. It was a tranquil walk today… as I passed only a couple of fisherman as they made their way around the lake.

California Wildflowers, Merced River Canyon

Over the weekend I had a chance to take a little bit of time and go enjoy a few moments in nature.  These images were taken along highway 140 in the Merced River Canyon right outside of Yosemite.  This was the first time I’ve caught the poppies in bloom along this stretch and it was simply stunning!  Poppies blanketing the hillsides for miles…truly a sight to be seen.

California Wildflowers, Sutter Creek

It is that time of year again…flowers start blooming, bees start buzzing. The world is waking up after it’s winter slumber and I like getting out into it and play myself. I took a few images of some poppies blooming on the side of the road near Sutter Creek. Flowers are just starting to bloom so I would give it a little longer before making the voyage for yourself. Hope you enjoy the images!

Contemporary Family Portrait Photography

So here is a new technique I have been experimenting with. Just like a painting, no two images will be the same. Check it out and let me know what you think. It may be something we start offering if it takes off.
