With the right mix of professional experience and educational preparation, Jeremy Underwood is an accomplished photographer. His photographic work has been celebrated across the pages of Photo District News (PDN), Real Weddings Magazine, Wedding Vow, Sierrastyle Weddings, and Sacramento Bride and Groom and his commitment to customer satisfaction mandates a client-first approach to his business. Though he’s worked in nearly every photographic genre, he specializes in wedding, people, and fine art photography. His photographic work has taken him across the country and around the world. Jeremy currently resides just outside the Sacramento metropolitan area in Roseville, CA.
Jeremy has grown from a formal education in photography at the University of Central Missouri. UCM’s photography department is a practical based program, focusing on the disciplines of business, science, technology, and communications. It was there that he grounded himself in the fundamentals of the craft, understanding everything from apertures to the Zone System. Whether it was in the studio or in nature, shooting high fashion and urban sprawl, Jeremy developed a comfort and competence in every photographic genre.
He continued his education at University of Central Lancashire, England, giving him opportunities to expand the intellectual reach of creative work. Grasping the varied techniques encompassed by documentary photographers, the UCLAN program delved into the artistic history of the photographic medium while steadily looking towards where it can be taken in the future.
Upon graduation, Jeremy worked tirelessly in every imaginable photography capacity as a freelance photographer. His professional employments have ranged from commercial to wedding to design to editorial. A sampling of his portfolio would reveal work with a studio known for photographing influential models and actors as well as Fortune 500 corporate executives and political portraits, and a commercial based company hired to run everything from an advertising campaign for a national restaurant chain to a PR package for a platinum selling musical artist.
In 2003, Jeremy queried one of Northern California’s largest photography studios and soon was a steady contributor. He quickly worked his way into the role of studio manager and primary photographer, and in 2005, Jeremy became a partner of Sharpe Photographers, a position he retains today.
Invariably, his professional experiences have complimented nicely his educational training as he is now equally comfortable working alone to capture the intricacies of fine art photography as he is covering a grand wedding. His hands on approach deftly creates the most pleasing compositions even as he brings a calming influence to his subjects. Jeremy is driven by a passion for fresh, cutting edge photography as well as a love for meeting and working with interesting people.
